It was a cool, but foggy, typical Florida spring early morning about 8 years ago. I remember making the turn onto RoJo's farm drive like it was yesterday. I was there to see a client's stallion that was there for breeding. As we walked through the barn, my eyes were wandering from one stall to the next looking for HIM. I heard a voice call from the other end of the aisle, "GOOD MORNING, welcome". It was John Brown. After introductions we proceeded down the aisles, and as we walked, I kept rubbernecking every stall in hopes of getting a glimpse of the sire I so admired but had never seen in the flesh.
John stopped briefly turned and said, "and there is Versace," and kept walking. I stood and stared into his stall, NOT like a professional trainer, that's for sure - more like a love-sick, horse-crazy little girl!! Couldn't help myself, I was in awe. Mr. Brown clearly saw my reaction and simply said, "Go on in and meet him". Being a lover and trainer of stallions for many years, there was no hesitation. I remember thinking to myself, "My gosh! He is more beautiful than any photo could ever capture." Not only was he spectacular to view, but the aura he projected was that of nothing but kindness.
His head on my shoulder, enjoying the jaw scratching, only confirmed the gentleness you saw in his eyes. As I stepped out of his stall I knew that someday, somehow, he would be in my life again. It is with great pleasure and huge honor that ShowBiz chooses the immortal Versace as our primary herd sire for future generations of World class Arabians in all disciplines of our magnificent breed.
